RETRO HAIR INSPIRATION

I have been toying with the idea of getting some new bangs (or fringe...potato/potata) and I am kinda digging the idea of getting a retro inspired one. I think this has scarily evolved from my Halloween costume this year where I planned to go as Rosie The Riveter. But my initial inspiration for the hair came from a fellow blogger; Rebecca Caridad from Manzanita. I think this lady has the most beautiful hair! 

Lusted after her Ombre'd ends, and now her fringe - but I am sure I don't need to tell you why - the hairstyle is super effortless and has a very Audrey Hepburn feel about it! I really want a change, and considering my hair is as short as I will allow it - and I am trying to get the colour back to natural....the fringe is the only perceivable thing that I can think of to change. And I am digging this look.

The fringe/bangs is cut a little above the eyebrow - and I am hoping that this will accentuate rather than overpower my current strong and dark eyebrows. I think it really plays up some femininity, and paired with my everyday winged liner, I think I could make this work. Only trouble is, knowing when to stop so that the look doesn't become too kitch/rockabilly. Might have to retire my M.A.C Ruby Woo for a little while if I go through with this. *GASP!

NAILS: HOW TO REMOVE GLITTER NAILPOLISH

Removing glitter nail polishes are a biiiiiiiiiitch. 

And being that glitter nail polishes are all the rage at the moment,  it has come to my attention that the removal of these nail polishes can be one of the worst things. Where the colour easily wipes off but leaves chunks and clusters of glitter behind on your nail where sometime your only solution can be to scratch and pick them off with something pointy.

1. I experimented with some ombre nails. It was a semi disaster, but then I found this amazing tutorial from The Beauty Department, so I am going to attempt this again // with my Lovisa armour ring.
2. My stack of books that are yet to be read (currently reading the last instalment of the Lisbeth Salander novels).
3. My beautiful friend Dominique and I attend Ig'Zist's 1st Birthday Party - there was a photo booth and it was fun!
4. Stacking up my D I Y bracelets (pssttt... after much cajoling, I have been convinced by friends to sell these online, so they will be coming!)
5. Customised stationary.
6. Some received chocolates for Easter, my mother got me a rose... Awwwwww.

THE LIST: AUTUM/WINTER WARDROBE

Take this as a wish list or as a shopping list, its up to you - to me this a list of ten things that I am wanting to incorporate into my wardrobe for Autumn and Winter. There are some items which I have left out of the list because you have read me harp on about them or because they aren't anything "new" or "unique"about them in terms of dressing for autumn and winter. This includes beloved Khaki Parka/Army Jacket (a staple for me for the cooler months) as well as the Midi Skirt.

M.I.A's Bad Girl video clip was a big influence for me this season. The video clip is just super cool, I'm always down for car stunts and ridiculously gaudy attire (heavy hood chains and shimmer jump suits anyone??). I am still in the process of hunting down the stylist for the video clip. Where some inspirations from the video are quite literal (#2, #8 and #10) some are more loosely inspired (#7 and #9).

I was reading up articles on Cushnie Et Ochs (one of my favourite labels at the moment) in Nylon & The Coveteur and stumbled across their Fall/Winter 11 lookbook. And I was drawn to the make up - a simple Taupe smokey eye.

NAIL INSPIRATION BROUGHT TO YOU BY MIXING A LITTLE AUTUMN LOVE AND A LITTLE SPRING ANTICIPATION. AND SOME DIY ACTION, BUT FOR THAT SCROLL TO THE END.

Yellow and Wine/Burgundy are "the" colours of the the Fall season ahead. However us in the Southern hemisphere have Spring on the horizon; and with that comes animal print, bright colours, some colour blocking action circa 2010 even (?) So I tried to mix these to form my nail inspiration. I thought it was quite fitting as its the first day of 2011 Spring tomorrow.

I call this the perfect mix for some trans-seasonal nail wear.

DIY ELEMENT:
I know that Sally Hansen has these **weird** stick on nail things that come in a leopard print motif, but why shell out $20 when you can have the same effect without damaging your nails. All you need is some forgotten colours in your nail box/bag.
I USED:
BYS Yellow + Cheap Black from a chemist + O.P.I Chopstickingtoourstory.
(Do I know how to mix high luxe and low cheap, or what???)


&& BASICALLY ITS:
1. TWO COATS OF YELLOW/LIGHT BROWN
2. BLOB (strategically) SOME ORANGE OR BROWN
3. CAREFULLY OUTLINE THESE BLOBS IN BLACK.. But notice that I didn't go all the way around the blobs.

DIY COLOURED OMBRE/BALAYAGE HAIR

Finally, I had some time for myself and got my hurrrrr did.
And the change is awesome, I have done the ombre (slash balayage) hair technique before here.
As much as I wanted the purple (slash lilac) back in my hair, using an expired box of dye, left me with some flaming burgundy tips. So, feeling slightly Paramore'ish, which is less than I desired but which I secretly dig. Call me crazy...

WHAT I USED FOR THE PROCESSES.

I used a semi permanent hair dye for the colour. It was this expired box of Country Colour dye or whatever... the box said nepal violet, but then again, when do hair dye boxes promise the colour on the actual box. The reason for using the expired box of hair dye, was cause I was cheap. I couldn't be bothered to go and get a whole other colour for my hair, and I'm impatient. I wanted to do it today! So I scrounged mother and I's bathroom cabinet and towards the very back sat this box of dye. So away I went.

IGNORE ALL THE RIDICULOUS FACES PULLED. I JUST CANT TAKE A NORMAL PICTURE TO SAVE MY LIFE.

1     - BEGINNING STAGES
2     - FIRST STAGE OF BLEACHED ENDS
3     - SECOND STAGE OF BLEACHED ENDS
4 /5 - THE COLOUR DRYING
6     - STYLED HAIR.

To get the full effect, I needed to bleach my hair. Wooo. 

I bleached it twice. Once just at the very tips of my hair (number 2), left the bleach in for 35 min. Then extended the section and went over it again for another 30 min (number 3). What this does is that it leaves my hair with a graduation to the bright burgundy, rather than a chock block of red, which isn't very nice.

Looking back at the photos, I kinda dig just the blonde tips which I might keep when the red fades away (which at this point looking at it, I feel like it will never happen).

TRENDY: DIP DYE X KANYE WEST AT MOMA

Just catching up on my blog roll (after many weeks of ignoring cause of Uni assesment) and just saw these pictures of Yeezy (aka Kanye West) performing at the MOMA -- on Jak+Jil blog...

It reminded me of dip dye, and how the trend is taking over all aspects of our wardrobes.
And yes, its is confirmed now that I have some time for myself, I am dip dye'ing my hair again :)

SHAVED SIDE VS BRAIDS

So remember this shaved side post, a while back?
Wayyyy before the shaved side thing was a thing?


When I discovered I could still achieve the look without shaving my head, I said Hallelujah! But it was kinda difficult, cause my hair had to be the right texture for me to do this.. then of course after a while, I just gave up.

Well, I have recently been inspired to look into it again! 
My friend Dominique, has had the shaved side hair for a while now, but she recently got extensions put in and it look freaking bombin!
I am super jealous, her hair just looks so luscious and uber cool. Its also like a deep vibrant red, which is another massive kicker!

So I was thinking, when I get some moolah in my bank account, that I am going to head down to a braiding shop and get my left side tight braided. Ala Jill Scott. When I was doing some picture-searches for the shaved side, I saw Jill Scott's version where she just corn-rosed the side, to get the same effect.
I dig this, and I have even found a place where I can get it done.

But one way to differentiate my hair, I actually want to take a it a step further and ombre my hair again. I did the ombre hair here, with a bit of purple through it.

SO IT WILL BE A MASH UP OF THESE PHOTO OF ALICE DELLAL & JILL SCOTT. YES PLEASE...

TWO-TONE NAILS

HAPPPPPPPYYYY EASTER! 

Nothing can beat a 5 day long weekend :D
But this is only for us Aussie kids I believe.
However, I hope wherever you are in the you are being spoilt rotten with chocolate!!!

THIS IS MY EASTER BUNNY POSE. I COULDNT AFFORD PROPER BUNNY EARS, SO THESE WILL HAVE TO DO.

I am not a big sweet tooth, but I got some eggs for the friends and got myself a Darrell Lea Dark Chocolate Nougat Egg. YUMMMERS!

In spirit of this holiday, I got my nails in the mood as well :)
This two tone look is very very easy. I have done it a plenty times before, but its the first time I have taken photos of them...

The best way is to really have pre painted nails that have dried for like a day or two, then do the second step. This is the best trick for like week old nails, that need touch ups.
So basically, you stick some sticky tape over the bottom half of your nail beds and paint over the sticky tape through to the tops of your nails.
I have some pretty cool combos like bright orange and khaki!
or.. white and steel grey...

The key is to go complete contrasts options, or stay in the same family of colours.

JOIN THE NAVY NAILPOLISH

I am digging my navy nailpolish.
I got a no name brand from the chemist's bargain bin.
The quality is very questionable. Therefore, I put a coat of black nailpolish first, then followed with two coast of the navy nail polish ;)
