Tea Rose and Lilac: DIY SILVER NECKLACE

So since picking up my first copy of Yen Magazine (as I have never ever... read it) I have been waiting for the opportunity (both time and monetary) to go and get myself the tools needed to make myself: this chunky/tassle'ey silver necklace.

SO YEN MAGAZINE ISSUE #45
PAGE 108

I knew at once what I would need to make it, and got soooo excited!
So, I decided after picking a pair of those khaki slacks from Lowes which I talk about here for another DIY project ;), that I would go and get the stuff from Lincraft and Beads & Beads for the necklace.

And so I bring you another DIY tutorial :)

WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO NEED

Jump Rings (Beads & Beads), Chains (Beads & Beads) (I used different lengths and types for a funkier look), Some pliers that will help to separate the links to add on to the tassels (Beads & Beads), and some spacer beads (eBay), Tassels (Lincraft).

*BEADS & BEADS
Is a little store here in Brisbane city that really caters to all your jewellery making needs. It is a little exy cause they are practically monopolising this segment of the market, but Lincraft just don't cut it as jewellery making suppliers.

*SPACER BEADS
I do love the skulls from the original picture, but for the life of me I could not find any - not on eBay or in stores... so I decided that I would get these ones instead.
If you can find some large beads like that in stores - then great!
If not, then just search for LARGE SPACER BEADS on eBay.

1. Measure the length that you need for your neck, and cut the chains accordingly. I wanted mine slightly longer, and then I added the clasp.

2. This step is optional, but I wanted to add some extra chains in different lengths and in different stops to give it a bit more of an edge. If you don't want to do this, then obviously skip this part :)

3. Then you want to thread the tassel into the large space beads/skulls. If the tassels are a little longer, then make sure you tie a knot near the top of the bead so that the lengths of the tassels aren't all crazy.

4. Then you just figure out where you want the tasseled bead to go, and just hook the tassels on to your necklace.

AND YOU ARE DONEEEEE!
HERE'S MINE :D
LITERALLY TOOK ME 15/20 MINUTES.

THANKS YEN MAG!

and you! for reading :)

thanks to the hipsters and the surferalamas (a new subculture i am unearthing) the hairy lip is back and hopefully to stay. some of us hate it, and yet some pull it off oh so well, that you just cant help but admire it.

warehouse parties + subcultures.

I recently gained another two followers.. I am definitely slowly taking over the world. ;)
In other news.. I have been swampped! with huge amounts of projects and assignments.. I just handed it in my Kanye West/Kid Cudi & Indie music essay.. (oh yes, I love my degree). Can you believe it, I handed it in HOURS! before it was actually due..
I know.. I am also slightly impressed with myself.

OFF TO A WAREHOUSE PARTY TONIGHT!
So that's exciting, and I found out that a recent find/favourite band of mine are playing there tonight: DZ! who I talk about here.

Thinking of wearing what I call my valley uniform.
1. Tights/Leggings
2. All black Converse
3. Black short skirt

with a lil twist:
4. Lace long sleeved shirt
5. Thrifted Lilac Blazer   ---hopefully I shall take some pics :)

after watching hours of The Rachel Zoe Project.. I have finally seen a shot of her hairstylist doing her hair. and now know how to create the perfect frame for curly hair! YAY
... I am pretty excited abt this development.

** for those who are interested:
I wrote an essay about how it is increasingly becoming a trend for Hip Hop artists to collaborate with Indie musicians - everyone should have heard abt the Kanye and Bon Iver collab by now (I KNOW! I CANT WAIT EITHER!!!) Also you got Kid Cudi working with Vampire Weekend and Best Coast.
Some terminology
- resistance against the stereotypes of hip hop culture and social structure.
- incorporation of indie commodities

But then again..us Aussies shouldn't really be surprised at this.
We had Bliss N Eso collaborating with Angus and Julia Stone wayyyyy before this. And can I just say.. Lupe Fiasco is definitely in my opinion the one who started the movement wayyyyy back in '07.

MARK MY WORDS
There is definitely a genre/subculture forming around the combination of hip hop & indie.
And Australia's is the hip hop/indie marketers dream!
We love our hip hop AND our indie like nobodies business.

Some might call this "bricolage" > hipster actually.
Which brings me to this: http://www.latfh.com/ (check it.. its hilarious)

Do you think you belong to a clique/subculture? If so what is it?

another diy obsession

SO...
after a lovely afternoon with the girls at Starbucks, we were en route to LUSH!!!!! (um.. duh) and i stopped in my tracks when I saw this massive sign for a pair of the perfect coloured khaki pants. its more on the green side.. then the brown khaki.

AT LOWES/BIG AND TALL/EDD HARRY - yeah, I have no idea which one of these it was at.. but its one of those discount men retailers.
And get this... they were $9.99 a pair. They had a beige one as well.

GRANTED these pants were your normal slacks... but my brain is wired D.I.Y - thanks to the daily obsession with D.I.Y blogs (some of my favourite.. Outsapop Trashion Recycle Fashion and A Pair and A Spare)

AND WHAT DID I SEE IN PLACE OF A PAIR OF SLACKS?
A pair of cute summer high-waisted shorts.
Lol, no I am not crazy... one could definitely DIY the hell out of those Lowes pants...

something like this perhaps?

these are available on etsy by the way for sale... just found them for $15 USD shipped internationally from the US.
cliccckkkkkk THIS

Chloe' shorts on Net-A-Porter for about $350 GBP....yeah sure.

AND HOPEFULLY,
I shall prove it to you :)
I am going to try and get my hands on one of them, and DIY it.. perhaps with some gold studs aswell? Ooooh... now were getting fancy ;)

HERE ARE SOME OF MY INSTANT INSPIRATIONS.

PS TREND ALERT: KHAKI NAIL POLISH

THANKS HOMBRES!

Threaded - Vintage Night

I indeedy got to work on another Threaded. Easily some of the best fun I have had, and some of the best people, I have met through Threaded.
It was themed Vintage Night, with two boutiques showcasing their diggs before their official and respective launches.
We had Bones Lie and Damsel Vintage.
Damsel Vintage is up and running, and she has some amaaaazing stuff. I bought this great vintage gold cuff from Ruby, for like $5AUD - soooo affordable. But not sure if it was like a discount? Lol, I doubt it.

(...taken on my mac pro :)))) )

And I think Bones Lie Vintage is still tweeking its sites, before it goes live. But she too had some cool stuff. She described her stuff as raw, grunge and wearable. She was spot on.

So, for Damsel Vintage we went for a dark lip, reminiscent of the Subfusco show and neutral face. As for hair we went for sleeked side part with a low and teased pony tail.
With Bones Lie, we concentrated on the brows - dark, luscious and thick ala Bambi. With nothing else on the face. The hair had a Alexander Wang feel to it, with a deep part and slicked side part.
Well the photos will make much more sense :)

These are photos from the Bones Lie show. Once I find some Damsel Vintage pics... I shall put the link up here.

seriously amazing clothes!

that is all :)
thanks again!

question of the post:
do you wear vintage? if so where do you like wearing it to?
