DIY: KAHLO HEADBAND

Hello, I bring you yet another DIY post :D
As for my lack of posting, you can blame my university which lead to a boring couple of weeks filled with study and assignmenting. Fun.

Anyway, as it is Halloween eve, many events arose for this DIY.
My mother is going as Frida Kahlo for her Halloween party and I needed to fit the attire for Lush's Day of the Dead party - which was awesome!

So I feel like a massive sell out making/wearing this headband..
Partly because this headband is huuuuuuge in Brisbane, and its cool kids scene.
Countless times my friend and I make fun of their monotone coloured flower headbands found on almost every single Black Doc Marten/Converse High Top wearing girls.
But I thought to myself, I havent seen a colourful one on anyone.. so I started getting busy. I also think it turned out very well. And, got a ton of compliments.
THIS TUTORIAL IS ALSO ECO-FRIENDLY/GREEN - except for the hot glue gun part. But I really couldnt substitute that.

you're going to need:
1. an old headband.. preferably a    wider one.
2. scissors
3. hot glue gun
4. old t-shirts

ONE: So you want to start by cutting out wide strips off your old shirts/tanks/dresses. I find printed maxi dresses that you dont wear anymore.. make a great starting point.
You can use a couple of different colours and materials.. or stick to the one.

The aim of the game here is to cut out as many circles as you need/can.
I am not sure how much you need, I just went with however many felt right.
You can obviously draw on circles using a template, or follow instruction number two.

TWO: Next you want to cut these strips of materials into squares. I didn't use any measurements.. just went with the flow. Just makes the headband a little more edgier than its "pretty" counterparts.
Keep going until you have enough squares. And to speed up the process of cutting out circles, you basically want to grab the square, fold it in half once, and fold that in galf again.. so you get a square.
Then holding the corner where the fold happen you cut from one side to the other, and when you fold out this cone shape.. you get a perfect circle every time. :)

THREE: Next you basically are just going to glue the circles on to the headband.
Now there is an art to this (not really... lol)
You want to place the glue in the middle of the circle, and then pinch the circle on to the headband.
Almost like folding the circle in half and placing it on the headband.
Always..always start in the middle so you get an even look.
and just keep going till you fill the headband, however full or sparse.
And you will get...

THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY EASY AND CHEAAAAAAAP! TRY IT!
That way you dont get ripped off by 17 year olds selling to you for $50-$100, for what only takes 20-25min tops and less than $5 to make.
Summer holidays is upon us. This should be your project.
MAKE A TON AND SELL THEM FOR THAT JEFFREY CAMPBELLS YOU HAVE BEEN LUSTING AFTER.
I KNOW I WILL BE.

Also, it looks adorable on ANYONE
Trust me on this one.
For example, on my friend Dominique!

whip your hair into shape.

This little lady has more style and maturity in her dreds than most other female artists.

The bi product of a (female) entrepenuer and the fresh prince of Bel' Air, Willow Camille Rein Smith is blowing the bar way up high for new talent. How can you go wrong with pedigree like that?

This young thing has been making a lot of fuss lately over her choice of clothes attending fashion shows and red carpet events with the equally stylish Jada Pinkett Smith, and just this week her new single "Whip My Hair" was released, thanks to none other than Mr.Rockafella himself. Willow is signed to the genius Jay-Z's record label: Roc Nation.

She has been hailed as a Mini-Rihanna, but Willow certainly is rocking her own with this genre 9 year old style.
In an interview, Willow cites the song as empowering and just all around female power goodness. Which is probably heavily influenced thanks to Mrs. Pinkett Smith. The video is like so freaking awesome. CLICK HERE
These are some of the screen captures I took.
EAT YOUR HEART OUT.

except for the gum.

Is it not absolutely refreshing for the younger generation to have someone edgy and down to earth to look to, rather than the usual over produced and neatly packaged Disney kids. Willow is their Lady Gaga and the reason for my green eyed jealousy.

Songs and projects like this make me uber excited but mainly jealous, cause I didint get to be a part of them. Hahaha...
Moments like these are ground breaking and quite possible one step away from becoming a movement.
Dont even pretend to think that younger kids are not going to love this song or her. They will want to dress a little edgier, and run around town with a mow-hawk and juke box in hand.

I'm sorry... Shiloh and Suri who? Its all about Willow right now.
Whip it gurrrrrllllll.

The fashion wears out more apparel than the man - Shakespeare.

Even Shakespeare knew the importance of fashion and its role in everyday life.

A well dressed man, is a man who is self assured and confident.
I am bored of men in tight jeans, thousands of printed ironic tees and poorly picked shoes.
Give me a man in a suit any day.
Of course the heat is not kind to these men especially in good old Brisbane.
But, below aren't just images of men in suits. Some do casual oh so well.

J. Mendel + Gossip Girl + High Tea

First of all, I am just coming down of my high from watching Gossip Girl's latest episode.
The red cut out J. Mendel gown that Serena wore in the A Touch of Eva episode, was aaaaaamazing.
Well, the dress itself is quite simple, but the way it was styled (and that damned long blond locks) will make a lot of us run to the shop to pick one up.
It was stunning, and I was in awe.
Just another styling-gasm.
For the life of me I couldn't find a photo of the dress alone, so you're going to have to do with a screenshot.

------

Secondly, I am off now to go and get ready for my first ever legitimate High Tea.
In the sense that, I have never been to a high tea that didn't involve fairy bread and markers all over my face.
This one is at The Stamford hotel here in Brisbane, thanks to my friend's 21st.
And since its a Saturday, the High Tea is of the chocolate variety.
I am not a big chocolate fiend.. definitely a more of a savoury girl, but I am actually quite excited. I have been craving cupcakes all week.
Partly due to the fact that I have been devoid of coffee/mocha all week thanks to my wonderful sore throat. I swear I thought I was going to lose my voice ala Little Mermaid. I have also stopped drinking juice. There is just so much sugar in them :( Really feelin it.

Anyway, as this is a fashion blog (I hope) of course I am writing of this event in order to share with the internet my stylings for the afternoon.
And sticking with the Gossip Girl theme, how could I not channel the one and only Miss Blair Waldorf.
I am definitely more of a Vanessa Abrahms when it comes to everyday sartorial choices. But I think this afternoon calls for a more special attire.
I did for a second think of how Vanessa would do High Tea. But I think doing a Blair Waldorf - sans headband mind you - is much more appropriate and FUN!

Some inspirations:

Yes, not strictly Blair Waldorf, but great hair and makeup.

and lets all be honest here, we all know the real life Blair Waldorf offers some of the chic'est alternatives.

AND NOW I AM RUNNING LATE!
ARGHHHH..

K, BYE!

oh deAR.

THIS IS ONE COMPLETE WAY TO NOT ATTEMPT THE FOLLOWING TR3NDS.

1. How not to attempt the boyfriend/long blazer.
Seems like it is wayyyyy to big on Ri Ri.

2. How not to attempt the tutu skirt.
Nothing she is wearing compliment each other - then again this might have been the ultimate goal. But it just isn't working for her.

3. How not to attempt the shoes and sock trend ++ the bow on shoes trend.
Let me put it this way, pick one trend and gooooo with it. Why inundate yourself with bows, socks and patent leather kitten heel ALL IN ONE GO?

4. And, I guess ultimately.. how not to attempt the Carrie Bradshaw circa Sex in The City Intro look.

Singularly, the items are great, just maybe not all in the one outfit.
I must say however, that I am jealous of her perfectly tones legs.
And how if she just didint wear the top half of the outfit with those shoes and socks, I would die for the bottom half of this picture.
